If one can talk about a microphone that is the epitome of classic, hi-fi sound, it will be the Austrian-designed C12.
The C12 was originally developed by the AKG in 1953 and appreciated for its airy frequency response. The design of the C12 was unique in its technology. The ability to change the characteristic between kidney, sphere and 8-digit characteristic (and six intermediate patterns) from the power supply made the C12 the most flexible large-membrane tube microphone of its time. Sworn to by many and is therefore still to be found in countless studios around the world.
